Once upon a time ” is a collaborative exhibition project conceived by a group of chilean artists, which explores the legacies and meanings of political violence.”Once upon a time in Santiago de Chile” is the second exhibition of “Once upon a time...” a collective project that includes american and european artists, and seeks to explore the notion of political violence in the area of Visual Arts.
Once upon a time” rescues the intertwined experience of subjects and spaces that have endured political violence. It deals with the problem of what leads groups of people in specific historical moments to seek the annihilation of “the radical other”. In this show, five artists tension different views of repression and violence. Their works, reflect on what are the material, emotional, and temporal residues of these experiences.
The manufacturing process of the work and reflection is complemented by the experience of cultural exchange emerged between latinamerican and european artists and the exhibitions held in different countries.
The show in Berlin took place at 91mQ, an art space located in the former East area of the city, the epicentre of Germany’s political struggles in the 20th century. The exhibition in Santiago will be hosted by the Galería Guillermo Nuñez at the Comuna de El Bosque nearby the Chilean Air Force headquarters, a site of systematic tortures, including the renowned Chilean artist Guillermo Nuñez.
